How We Build Community Resilience in a Climate-Changing World
Green Generation Initiative works with grassroots communities to strengthen long-term resilience by restoring the natural systems that sustain livelihoods, accelerating climate adaptation, and building sustainable local economies.
Green Generation Initiative works with grassroots communities to restore ecosystems, strengthen adaptation, and grow sustainable local economies rooted in long-term resilience.
Community Resilience Building
In a climate-changing world, resilience begins by rebuilding the ecological foundations that communities rely on every day. GGI works alongside local communities to secure water sources, restore soil health, protect biodiversity, and strengthen the ecosystem services that sustain homes, farms, and local economies.
This work combines restoration with practical climate adaptation. Communities are supported to adopt climate-smart solutions that protect livelihoods, improve production systems, and strengthen local capacity to adapt while contributing to mitigation and long-term environmental stewardship.
GGI also helps unlock green economic opportunity by turning local environmental action into enterprise pathways that generate income, reduce poverty, diversify livelihoods, and build stronger decentralized economies.
GGI's Core Community Resilience Building Initiatives
Our work spans the following areas:
- Agroforestry
- Water harvesting and watershed restoration
- Large-scale seedling production
- Fruit tree farming and orchards
GGI's Targeted Impact Outcomes for Enhanced Community Resilience
- Strengthen food security and improve community nutrition systems.
- Build a culture of environmental stewardship and long-term ecosystem restoration.
- Accelerate climate adaptation and low-carbon development pathways.
- Unlock decentralized economic opportunities that drive sustainable grassroots prosperity.
Building Climate-Resilient Communities at Scale
- 1.45M Fruit trees distributed: Generating more than USD 107 million annually for farming communities through avocado and macadamia production and sales.
- 17,800 Green jobs created: Injecting more than USD 8 million in annual income to local youth and women through sustainable livelihood opportunities.
- 142,849 Farmers reached: Supported with climate-smart agricultural extension and advisory services delivered through mobile SMS platforms.
- 10km Riparian ecosystems restored: Protecting watersheds, biodiversity, and long-term water security for surrounding communities.
Across farming landscapes, GGI has also established 149,885 meters of grass strips and 51,550 meters of farm terraces, reducing soil erosion, improving land restoration, and increasing fodder production to strengthen dairy farming productivity.
