Our greening initiatives focus on preserving and restoring natural ecosystems to maintain biodiversity and ecological balance. This includes forest adoption for restoration, forest geo-mapping, source water protection and water catchment restoration, environmental/climate educational and awareness for children, youth and local communities.
Our conservation and restoration initiatives are centered on preserving existing and restoring degraded ecosystems to ensure biodiversity and ecological balance. We promote nature-based solutions and initiatives that facilitate the inter-gradation of sustainable practices that not only protect nature but also mobilize local communities to lead restoration and protection efforts.
Core Conservation Projects:
- Greening Schools: Establishing green spaces, micro-forests, and fruit orchards within school, to improve students’ fruit-vegetable nutrition and promote environmental  tranquility that supports students psychosocial well-being and academic performance.
- Environmental & Climate Education: Through eco-clubs, volunteer programs, and awareness campaigns, we educate children and youth on conservation, sustainability, and climate resilience.
- Forest Adoption & Restoration: We collaborate with local community forest associations (CFAs) to rehabilitate degraded forest areas, particularly those outside protected zones to expand community-owned forests and ensure long-term ecological health.
- Geo-Mapping: Leveraging technology, we monitor and track restoration activities, compiling data to inform and optimize our conservation strategies
- Source Water Protection: By implementing community-led catchment restoration models through Water Funds, we safeguard critical upstream water sources, ensuring sustainable water supplies for ecosystems, people, and businesses both within and downstream of these catchments
Our Impact:
Through collaboration with our partners we have;
- 2 Acres of Ololua Forest adopted and under restoration.
- 308 schools have established micro-forests and fruit orchards through our Fruit Trees 4 Schools campaigns.
- 510,000 trees grown in schools and public green spaces.
- 4.8 million seedlings grown across the watershed to restore upstream water sources in Nairobi Water Fund.
- 200,000 ha of farmlands under improved soil and water management under Nairobi Water Fund
- 15,689 rainwater harvesting pans established, capturing 2 billion liters of rainwater harvested annually.
- 15% average increase in annual water yield across micro-watersheds.
- 35,000 youth engaged and empowered through conservation initiatives.
Sustainable Development Goals Achieved:
- Life on Land (SDG 15)
- Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG 6)
- Climate Action (SDG 13)
- Quality Education (SDG 4)
